Hand Plane Restoration
Presented by: Pat Zabrocki

Below you will find the Hand Plane Restoration PDF spoken of during the presentation.  Be sure to open the pdf as there are a host of links to other websites related to hand planes.

Presentation Notes:
  • Use a de-burring wheel to clean up rust on blades and body of the plane. (Scotch Brite EXL-2S-FIn)
  • An auto body velcro pad can also be used.
  • Use a granite plate/slab with adhesive sand paper to flatten the bottom of the plane(Sole). This can be wet or dry.  You can also use a bit of WD-40 to help.
  • Once all cleaned up use a bit of paste wax on all the exposed surfaces to preserve the restored shine.
  • When reassembling place the cap iron 1/32 to 1/64 from the edge

Here are some useful tools to restore your hand plane.

Program for Flood Relief. (NEW)
It was discussed at the meeting to start a program where tables are made for flood relief victims. Wood could be acquired from Habitat for Humanity for the making of a table. Then when completed the table would be brought back to Habitat for Humanity to be distributed to an appropriate family. Stay tuned for further details
